DID YOU KNOW?
One child in ten, about five million children in the United
States, has some type of disability that can separate them from the joy and learning of playgrounds.
Playground Friends, a non-for-profit organization,
was established to help raise funds to help build and maintain adaptive playgrounds.
We are excited to announce our plans to raise money to help build an adaptive playground for the children of The Linda
Nolen Learning Center (LNLC). The school will move to its new location
in Pelham in August 2009. When that happens, the children will be without a playground. For children like my son, Joey, who is confined to a wheelchair and attends the LNLC,
an adaptive playground would open up a whole new world for him.
The LNLC serves students with special needs, ages 3 to 21. They
are a self-contained public day school in Shelby County that provides individualized
instruction for students with severe physical, mental or emotional needs.
With your help, you can make our dream of an adaptive playground come to life for these amazing children!
